Man gets 130 months in Co. human trafficking case
A federal judge in Denver has sentenced a Highlands Ranch man to 130 months in prison in a human trafficking case.
Department of Justice spokesman Jeffrey Dorschner says U.S. District Judge Marcia Krieger also sentenced Kizzy Kalu to three years’ supervision after his release, and ordered him to pay $3.8 million in restitution to his victims.
Kalu was convicted last year of 89 counts of mail fraud, visa fraud, human trafficking and money laundering after a four-week jury trial. According to the indictment, he and an accomplice claimed they were bringing foreigners to the U.S. to provide specialized nursing instruction at a university that existed in name only. Instead, immigrants worked in nursing homes, and Kalu took much of their earnings for himself.
