Commissioner McFadyen to run for U.S. Congress

Pueblo County Commissioner and former Democratic state Rep. Buffie McFadyen will announce her candidacy to challenge Republican Scott Tipton for Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District spot in the November midterm elections.

McFadyen has confirmed her plans to KRDO NewsChannel 13’s Michelle San Miguel.

McFadyen served in the Colorado State Legislature from 2003 to 2011 and is currently the lone Democrat stepping up to challenge Tipton.

Tipton is a two-term congressman who defeated McFadyen’s fellow Pueblo County Commissioner, Sal Pace, in the 2012 congressional race. Tipton will be vying for his third term in the U.S. Congress.

The 3rd Congressional District covers Pueblo County, the San Luis Valley and the Western Slope of Colorado. While Tipton has held the seat for the past two election cycles, Democrat John Salazar held the seat for six years (2002-08), succeeding Republican Scott McInnis (1992-2002).
