Broncos fans waited 15 years; ready for Super Bowl win

Three people years apart in age have on hope in mind: that the Denver Broncos will win Super Bowl XLVIII.

At 15, 61, and 85-years-old respectively, three fans in Colorado Springs have been waiting 15 years to see their beloved Broncos bring home a Super Bowl win again.

15-year-old Joey Crochet was wearing his Super Bowl XXXIII jersey on Saturday. He was only 11 months old when the Denver Broncos won the Super Bowl in 1998. Joey was too young to remember that day, but Sunday (2/2/14) will be his first chance to catch his team win it all.

“I was watching replays of Super Bowl XXXII, Super Bowl XXXIII and now to actually be a part of it, seeing it happen live, it’s really special,” said Crochet.

He may be one of the most die hard Broncos fans for 15. Joey’s entire bedroom is decked out in Broncos gear. He even has a hat signed by John Elway.

There are other fans who might have him beat, though.

“It is the greatest feeling in the world,” said 61-year-old Suzanne DeRungs.

DeRungs doesn’t have as much paraphernalia, but she’s been on the Broncos side since 1976.

“My husband and I used to always say think they’re going to the Super Bowl. I think they’re going to win it,” said DeRungs.

Her husband, Donald, died in 2010, but she said his spirit lives on through a Broncos blanket.

“I just feel like he’s that much closer because I know he’s enjoying this football,” she said.

Myrtle McNally is 85. She’s been a Broncos fan for 22 years.

“I’m not gonna say it will be the last. I’m gonna say it could be the last at my age. So far I still know up from down. So I’m in hopes I get to watch another one,” said McNally.

Whether young or old, watching Super Bowl XLVIII will be a day all three will never forget.

“I always thought what if I got to see the Broncos win as an early birthday present,” said Crochet.

“I can’t wait for tomorrow’s game. I really can’t,” said Derungs.

“I’m gonna cheer them on and there’s no doubt they’re going to win,” said McNally. “I will always, always remember them.”
