Snowstorm throws Pueblo Streets Division off schedule

Poor visibility and icy road conditions led to a slow commute Friday morning (1/31/14) for drivers in Pueblo, but the city’s Streets Division team says it was ready for the storm.

White top roads didn’t stop Kyle Swanson from going to work.

“We try to help out businesses in need whenever we get these snowstorms,” he said.

But Swanson had a difficult time driving Friday.

“I haven’t seen any lines on any of the roads today,” he said.

Robert Arellano said he feels the Pueblo Streets Division could do more to clear the snow.

“That’s the city’s problem, they were lazy about it,” he said.

The Streets Division says it was ready.

“We met last night. We had two guys come in to monitor the situation at 3 a.m.,” Streets Superintendent Steve Eubanks said.

Eubanks said the plows won’t hit the streets until crews see snow.

“It was a late storm. The storm didn’t begin until 4 a.m.,” he said.

Eubanks said when the plows do go out, seven crews are responsible for seven routes, which takes six to eight hours to complete.

Eubanks has a message for people in Pueblo if their road isn’t clear.

“Just be patient and go slow,” he said.

There will be plows out continuously until late Saturday or early Sunday.
