Pueblo landlord fined over substandard housing

A Pueblo landlord has been fined $5,000 after being accused of 70 health and city code violations that forced 14 families to be relocated and their building condemned in August.

Darla Ewing was accused of failing to maintain water systems, plumbing systems, garbage and fire protection systems.

According to the Pueblo Chieftain, Ewing was ordered by Municipal Court Judge William Martinez to pay the fine to avoid a possible jail sentence.

The investigation began last year after police received complaints. The property has been boarded up and liens have been placed on it.
