Nearby grass fire sparks search at Sierra High School

Police searched Sierra High School Wednesday morning (1/22/14) after a small explosion caused a grass fire north of the school the day before.

Police say the search was only a precaution and classes continued as normal at the school.

The Colorado Springs Fire Department says the grass fire, which was 20 feet in diameter, started in a ditch north of the school on Jetwing Drive, near S. Academy Blvd. and Chelton Rd.

The fire was put out quickly. An explosive device of some kind was found in the area where the fire started.

Two juveniles were seen running from the field right after the explosion was reported.
