Teen dies in crash north of La Junta

A 19-year-old from La Junta is dead after a crash on Highway 109 north of town.

The accident happened about five miles north of La Junta at 11:50 a.m. on Wednesday, January 15, 2014.

The Colorado State Patrol says that Ashley Abel was driving a Gold 2000 Ford Explorer south on the highway when the SUV went off the road. Troopers say the vehicle continued driving a half a mile into an open field before rolling multiple times.

Troopers say Abel was not wearing a seat belt. She was thrown from the SUV and killed.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
