Pueblo walker hit by car crossing Highway 50 Bypass

Police in Pueblo are warning walkers to be careful around busy intersections after a walker was hit crossing the Highway 50 Bypass Sunday evening.

The 62-year old was hit while in the crosswalk at the intersection of Bonforte Blvd at 6:17 p.m., according to Pueblo police. Witnesses told police that the driver had the green light.

That walker was taken to the hospital and is listed in critical condition.

Ruben Velasquez, Jr. was behind the wheel of the car that hit the walker. Police have not determined if Velasquez will face criminal charges.

Traffic officers with the Pueblo Police Department cautioned pedestrians to be aware of their surroundings and obey crossing signals. They should also wear light-colored clothing when walking at night.

The investigation into the wreck continues.
