Customer witnesses bank robbery from drive-up window, calls police

A TCF bank branch near N. Academy Blvd. and Montebello Dr. was robbed Monday morning (1/13/14).

The TCF at 4330 N. Academy Blvd. was robbed at 10:35 a.m.

Police say a customer using the drive through saw the two robbers, who were wearing ski masks and dark clothing, jump over the counter inside the bank. He called police.

The robbers didn’t have a gun but police say they did use “physical force to gain compliance” from bank employees.

Grant Elementary was placed on lockdown as a precaution because of this investigation.

Witnesses describe the suspects as two black men in their 20s or 30s. One is about 5’4″ tall with a small build. The other is 5’10” to 6′ tall with a muscular build. Police say they’ve been wearing heavy clothing and covering their faces.

Anyone with information is asked to call Colorado Springs Police at 719-444-7000, or Crime Stoppers at 719-634-STOP.
