D-60 superintendent announces retirement

The superintendent of Pueblo City Schools is stepping down at the end of the school year.

Dr. Margarita “Maggie” Lopez announced her retirement on Friday, January 10, 2014.

Dr. Lopez became the superintendent of D-60 on February 22, 2011 and served as interim superintendent for six months before that.

“I am excited with the opportunities retirement will bring, including more time for family, friends and travel,” Dr. Lopez said in a news release. “During my 37 years as an educator, I have had the privilege of serving many wonderful students, staff and communities, and that makes this decision difficult. It has been an honor to serve Pueblo City Schools,” Dr. Lopez said. “I look forward to the remainder of this school year.”

Before joining D-60, Dr. Lopez worked in school district 11 and school district 20, both in Colorado Springs.
