Lawmakers finalizing bills addressing Colo. floods

Colorado lawmakers are finalizing legislation they want to introduce in response to September’s devastating floods.

Lawmakers are considering whether to waive or reimburse property taxes for people who had their property destroyed. They’re also discussing whether to give flood-impacted schools priority to grants under a state capital construction program.

A legislative committee meeting Tuesday afternoon will consider those ideas, and whether they should become bills during the legislative session that begins Wednesday.

Lawmakers have already agreed to introduce a bill that gives counties budgeting flexibility to fix roads and bridges. Another bill they’ve agreed to introduce is aimed at expediting fixes to damaged irrigation ditches.
