Arrest made, victim identified in deadly New Year’s Day shooting

One man is dead and another is facing murder charges after a New Year’s Day shooting in Colorado Springs.

The shooting happened on the 1400 block of Michelle Court, which is near East Fountain Boulevard and South Murray Boulevard. It was reported at around 7 a.m. on Wednesday, January 1, 2014.

Springs police announced the arrest of Matthew DeJong, 30, in connection to the shooting on Wednesday night. DeJong is facing charges for first degree murder. The victim has been identified as Olajuwon Juvann Kumangai, 19. His death has been ruled the first homicide in Colorado Springs of 2014.
