Arapahoe High attack plan revealed

New details revealed by the Arapahoe County Sheriff show a plan for a much larger attack at Arapahoe High School.

The Sheriff’s Office says the shooter, 18-year-old Karl Pierson, had written on his arm five different letters and numbers that correlate with the library and different classrooms. Investigators believe they were a reminder of where to go next as he hunted for librarian and debate team coach Tracy Murphy.

After entering the school at 12:33 p.m. Pierson immediately and randomly fired the shotgun. His second blast causing serious injury to 17-year-old senior Claire Davis who investigators believe was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The gunman also had “Alea iacta est,” on the inside ofhis forearm, which translates to English as “The die has been cast.” That saying is attributed to Julius Caesar, who said the words as he crossed the Rubicon River with his troops to start a civil war…essentially a point of no return.

Frank DeAngelis, the principal at Columbine High when Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold killed 12 students and a teacher. He told our partners KDVR that the images of kids walking out of the school with their hands up brought back memories of that day 15 years ago.

“What I hear a lot of times is well the sooner we get back in school and we get back in classes we get back to normal…things will never get back to normal,” DeAngelis said.
