Antonito faces penalty for water noncompliance

Residents of Antonito are concerned after the town was notified is has failed to comply with state water regulations.

The state is threatening to penalize the town for allowing town administrator Rossi Duran to operate their water systems without a license.

The Alamosa Valley Courier reports state law requires every facility that manages wastewater, water collection systems and distribution systems to have a certified operator.

Town officials recently got a letter from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment notifying them the town is in violation of state water regulations and could face fines if the problems are not corrected.
