Arrest made in deadly hit & run

The Colorado State Patrol says an arrest has been made in a deadly hit and run in El Paso County.

Investigators say it happened around 2:45 a.m. Sunday (12/8/13) on Highway 115 near Glenrock Drive.

State troopers said a car rolled off the highway into an embankment. All three people in the car got out safely and walked up to the highway for help.

Investigators say two drivers stopped to help, but one of the crash victims became combative and the drivers left. They say that a few minutes later a driver hit Ian G. Saj, 33, while he was standing on the shoulder of the highway.

Saj was thrown down the embankment. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene. The driver never stopped.

Troopers have identified one of the drivers who the men got into an argument with as Jesse Plouvier of Caon City. Investigators say Plouvier refused to give the men a ride following the accident and that they believe Plouvier is also the driver who hit Saj.

Plouvier was linked to the hit and run after a tip was called in to the Florence Police Department. Florence Police relayed the tip to Colorado State Patrol which launched an investigation into Plouvier in partnership with the el Paso County Sheriff’s office, Florence Police, Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, and Caon City Police. A search warrant was executed at Plouvier’s home in Caon City as part of the investigation, but investigators aren’t saying what if any evidence linking him to the crime was found there.

Plouvier was arrested and is facing charges for accidents involving death or personal injuries and vehicular homicide.

Troopers say no additional details will be released at this time because of the ongoing investigation into Saj’s death.
