Frozen creek sends water over banks

Some residents living in Golden are on alert because of water overflowing the banks of frozen Clear Creek.

Golden city spokeswoman Karlyn Tilley said Monday ice on top of flowing creek water is melting and creating two streams of water, one on top of the ice and another underneath. She said so far, flooding has been minor, but authorities are worried what will happen when temperatures warm up and the ice continues to melt.

Authorities on Monday warned residents of the Clear Creek RV Park to be ready to evacuate if necessary.

Several trails in Golden are closed due to high levels of frozen water, and several parking lots along the creek are also closed.
