Fast-food protest: Calling for higher wages

A group of fast-food workers in Colorado Springs are looking for better pay.

They faced the cold temperatures on Thursday, waving signs and chanting for higher wages. They were taking part in a nationwide effort. Fast food workers are asking to be paid $15 an hour.

Organizers say rallies happened in 100 cities across the country. The group outside of McDonalds on Colorado Avenue,say it’s time for a change.

“Everyone deserves the chance and the opportunity to make enough money to feed their families and to better their lives. Minimum wage is not enough to do that,” said protester, Molly Garrison.

Meanwhile, the protests are getting support from the white house. During an economic policy speech this week, President Obama mentioned fast-food and retail workers in his call for raising the federal minimum wage.
