Prosecutors Looking into Deadly Shooting Involving a Child
Police investigating the accidental shooting death of a 3-year-old boy have forwarded the case to prosecutors to decide whether charges are warranted.
The Longmont Times-Call reports that Frederick Police Chief Gary Barbour said Tuesday the Weld County District Attorney’s Office now has the case of Sheine Steine, who died Oct. 28.
The boy’s mother called 911 and told dispatchers her son had apparently fallen, wasn’t breathing and was bleeding from the head. The coroner says Steine died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Authorities who responded to the shooting at a Frederick home say a .40-caliber handgun was found near the boy.
