Jessica Ridgeway’s killer sentenced to life in prison

A judge says a Colorado teenager who killed and dismembered a 10-year-old girl in the Denver area last year must spend the rest of his life in prison.

District Judge Stephen Munsinger sentenced 18-year-old Austin Sigg on Tuesday after an emotional two-day hearing.

Sigg pleaded guilty to the October 2012 slaying of Jessica Ridgeway in Westminster.

The girl was abducted while walking to school, and human remains identified as hers were found five days later in a park. More of her remains were hidden in a crawl space in the home of Sigg’s mother, where Sigg lived.

The kidnapping sent residents into a panic before Sigg turned himself in. Sigg also acknowledged attacking a 22-year-old jogger at a nearby park in May 2012.

Sigg didn’t face the death penalty because he was 17 when Jessica was killed.
