New billboard put up in ongoing debate over religion at the Air Force Academy

A New “missile” has been fired in the war over religious proselytizing at the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA).

A group called the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) has paid for a new billboard that went up Monday (11/18/13) at the intersection of Garden of the Gods Road and Centennial Boulevard in the northwest part of the city.

The billboard includes a quote that the MRFF says is from a letter written by the USAFA prep school’s head athletic trainer and assistant athletic director, Allen Willoughby. The quote reads “I am on staff at USAFA and will talk about Jesus Christ my lord and savior to everyone that I work with.”

Below the quote, the MRFF offers it’s response, which reads “We get it, but we won’t tolerate it!”

Earlier this month, the MRFF argued that Willoughby’s statement violated Air Force regulations banning leaders from promoting religious beliefs to subordinates and demanded action.

The AFA says that Willoughby made the statement in a personal capacity and that no action will be taken.
