New charges added to sex assault case

A Fort Carson soldier accused of sexually assaulting children in three states will be allowed name to his twin brother as a suspect in his defense.

Aaron Lucas was in El Paso County court Friday as a judge made decisions on his upcoming trial.

Investigators said DNA evidence connects Aaron Lucas to the sex assaults, but Lucas said his twin brother, Brian Lucas, is responsible. The judge decided the defense team will also be allowed to name Jason Ivan Johnson as a suspect in the case.

A judge decided there was enough evidence to add new kidnapping and sex assault charges that prosecutors requested the last time Lucas was in court.

Prosecutors said Lucas lured 11 girls into his car and sexually assaulted three of them. Prosecutors said Lucas is tied to cases in Colorado, Texas and Alabama. His trial is scheduled to begin in January 2014.
