Colo. State Fair revenue dipped this year

The Colorado State Fair made less money this year as it experimented with a new cashless fair experience.

However, the fair still turned a profit of more than $400,000. The Pueblo Chieftain reports that fair officials meeting in Pueblo this week say they’re happy with revenue from the 11-day event.

Attendance for the expo was about 477,000. That’s up about 2,000 from last year.

Fair General Manager Chris Wiseman said it’s too soon to say if the cashless system hurt revenue. He said the system of using smart cards instead of cash improved the fair’s accounting and the cashless system will continue next year.
