Air Force Drops Home Opener 84-82 to Jackson State

Javeres Brent scored 17 points and Jackson State withstood an Air Force comeback attempt, holding on for an 84-82 victory on Thursday night.

The Tigers (1-2) tied their largest lead over the Falcons (1-2) at 47-32 early in the second half. But Air Force closed the gap and tied the game at 82-82 on Max Yon’s 3-pointer with 16 seconds left in the game.

Jackson State regained the lead as Julysses Nobles made two free throws with 14 seconds left. Air Force’s Callum Long drove to the basket but missed his shot attempt with 6 seconds remaining and the Tigers secured the rebound to hold on for the win.

Nobles scored 16 points and Treshawn Bolden added 14. Brandon West had 13 points, nine rebounds and six blocks for the Tigers.

Tre’ Coggins and Yon powered Air Force, with Coggins scoring a game-high 35 points and Yon adding 22.
