No snow leopards for Colorado big cat facility

The Serenity Springs Wildlife Center had its application for a permit to breed snow leopards denied by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

A U.S. Department of Agriculture complaint from 2012 lists numerous violations including not having a veterinarian when needed, improper housing for the animals and failure to treat tigers as carefully as possible.

The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) had hoped the permit would be denied. The organization now hopes the Serenity Springs’ license is revoked.

Nick Sculac, owner of Serenity Springs, refused to comment on the license denial, saying he would be taking PETA to court.
