Officer fired after being accused of child abuse

A Berthoud police officer accused of abusing his daughter has been fired by the town manager.

Officer Jeremy Yachik, 35, was fired yesterday after police arrested him at his home for abusing his teenage daughter.

Yachik was suspended from his job last month after a video of him allegedly kicking and punching the 15 year old girl.

Yachik admitted he was the man in the video.

The video was taken by Yachik’s ex-girlfriend who sent a copy to the Berthoud police chief, Glenn Johnson.

AfterJohnson failed to respond toallegations that Yachik was the man in the video, Yachik’s ex-girlfriend sent the video toBerthoud town officials, the media andthe Loveland police department.

It was then that the Loveland police department began an investigation and Berthoud town officials suspended both Yachik and Chief Johnson.

The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office stepped in, providing a deputy to serve asinterim police chief throughout the investigation.

Johnson’sdaughter told police he had abused her for years. According to a Loveland Police Department arrest affidavit the abuse included restraining her hands with handcuffs or plasti zip ties and then slamming her head into a wall hard enough to leave a hole. It also says he allegedly choked her until she blacked out.
