Police nab suspect in Craigslist thefts
Colorado Springs Police say they set up a sting to catch a man accused of being involved in a series of Craigslist-related thefts
The crimes happened on 10/27/13 and 10/28/13.
In each case, a person who advertised one or more iPhone(s) for sale on Craigslist agreed to meet a potential buyer, and in each case, the seller was ripped off.
Two of the thefts happened at the Walgreens at 4305 E. Platte Avenue. A third happened at the Walgreens at 1920 S. Chelton Road.
On 10/29/13, detectives with the Colorado Springs Police Department placed an ad on Craigslist offering an iPhone for sale. They arranged a meeting with a potential buyer at the Walgreens on S. Chelton Road.
Police set up a sting, during which they say the suspect grabbed an iPhone from detectives and took off running.
Police arrested the man after a short foot chase.
The suspect has been identified as Alexander Mitchell. He is facing three felony theft charges and one charge of theft from an at-risk adult.
Police say the investigation is still open, and additional arrests are likely in this case.
