Police nab suspect in Craigslist thefts

Colorado Springs Police say they set up a sting to catch a man accused of being involved in a series of Craigslist-related thefts

The crimes happened on 10/27/13 and 10/28/13.

In each case, a person who advertised one or more iPhone(s) for sale on Craigslist agreed to meet a potential buyer, and in each case, the seller was ripped off.

Two of the thefts happened at the Walgreens at 4305 E. Platte Avenue. A third happened at the Walgreens at 1920 S. Chelton Road.

On 10/29/13, detectives with the Colorado Springs Police Department placed an ad on Craigslist offering an iPhone for sale. They arranged a meeting with a potential buyer at the Walgreens on S. Chelton Road.

Police set up a sting, during which they say the suspect grabbed an iPhone from detectives and took off running.

Police arrested the man after a short foot chase.

The suspect has been identified as Alexander Mitchell. He is facing three felony theft charges and one charge of theft from an at-risk adult.

Police say the investigation is still open, and additional arrests are likely in this case.
