DOC stepping up sex offender supervision for Halloween

Colorado sex offenders on parole will receive additional supervision this Halloween by Colorado Department of Corrections Parole Officers.

“All offenders being supervised under sex offender directives are prohibited from participating in Halloween activities,” according to Interim Director of Parole Steve Hager. “This includes Trick or Treating or answering the door for Trick or Treaters on October 31st.”

Offenders on parole for sex crimes are also prohibited from displaying Halloween decorations that could attract children or having porch lights on during Halloween evening.

Parole officers from around the state will be making random visits to offenders who are required to stay home and who are prohibited from participating in any Halloween activities. “Our parole officers will be active around the state to ensure offenders are making proper choices,” according to Colorado Department of Corrections Executive Director Rick Raemisch.

Of 11,101 offenders who are currently being overseen by Colorado Department of Corrections parole, 1,587 are sex offenders.
