Old Highway 24 reopens following flood repairs

The road that connects U.S. 24 to the west end of Manitou Springs has reopened more than two months after it was badly damaged by flash flooding.

The storm that damaged the 1/2 mile stretch of road happened on August 9, 2013. The Colorado Department of Transportation says two 30 to 40-foot sections of the road were washed out. Minor damage also occurred on the Fountain Creek Bridge.

A closure of westbound Manitou Avenue will still be needed for curb and drainage work, most likely next week. Drivers will be able to use Serpentine Drive as the detour. Eastbound traffic will not be impacted.

Approximately 4,500 vehicles use this segment of U.S. 24 Business daily.

C-DOT says it cost $500,000 to repair the highway.
