16 homes without water after a house fire in Cimarron Hills

Around sixteen homes were without water Thursday morning on Hathaway Drive in Cimarron Hills after a water main broke.

The Cherokee Metropolitan Water District worked to fix the issue throughout the morning, and restored water to residents just before noon Thursday.

The houses impacted by the outage are near a severely burned house that erupted into flames last night.

Firefighters arrived at the house to take out the raging fire that sparked in the back of the house. The fire then made its way inside and burned part of the home’s interior.

After the flames were out, firefighters reported significant damage to the back deck, the back side of the house and the attic.

As of Thursday morning, firefighters were investigating what caused theflames to erupt so quickly.

“When a fire advances this quickly at a detectable time period like (seven pm) it makes us really start to investigate how did a fire get so large in that circumstance,” said Fire Chief Matt Love of the Cimarron Hills Fire Department.

According to Love, the extent of the fire damage is going to cause the investigation process into the origin of the fire to take longer. The investigation is being conducted by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

It is unclear if the fire caused the water main break.
