Dad faces child abuse charge after daughter disappears

The father of a little girl who apparently wandered away from home while her dad was sleeping is now facing charges.

Olivia, age 4, was found near a McDonald’s in the 500 block of N. Murray Boulevard at 8:40 a.m. on Tuesday, October 22, 2013.

The person who found Olivia called police. Officers searched the area trying to figure out where Olivia might live, but they were unsuccessful.

Police say Olivia was in her father’s care and wandered off when he fell asleep. They say the father called police after waking up and seeing a news report about his daughter.

Olivia was reunited with her mother at the Sand Creek substation of the Colorado Springs Police Department. Her father, Ryan Kauffman, age 29, is facing a charge of misdemeanor child abuse according to police.
