Child killed while riding ATV near Walsenburg

A 5-year old boy was killed Monday (10/22/13) in an ATV accident near Walsenburg.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, the accident happened on private property near Colorado 160, which is 14 miles west of Walsenburg. The ATV was traveling up a steep hill, when it rolled backwards on top of the child and the driver, a 71-year old man.

Neither the driver, Guy Webber of La Veta, nor the child were wearing helmets or protective equipment at the time.

Weber was taken to Spanish Peaks Hospital in Walsenburg and then later air lifted to Parkview Medical Center in Pueblo. He sustained serious injuries during the crash. The child died on scene.

At this time, alcohol and drug use are not suspected as contributing factors to the crash.
