3 charged after home explosion in Carr

Prosecutors have filed charges against three people in connection with a house explosion in Carr that may have been caused by the production of a marijuana concentrate like hash oil or marijuana wax.

The Weld County District Attorney’s Office says Levi Allen and Clayton Smith, both 27, have been charged with manufacturing marijuana concentrate, child abuse and arson. Meanwhile, 53-year-old Lavonne Bessler was charged with manufacturing a controlled substance for allegedly allowing the men to process the drug on her property.

Authorities say Allen and Smith were taken to a hospital with severe burns on their hands and arms after the Aug. 11 explosion, and a 7-year-old boy had minor injuries. Bessler was not home when the blast occurred.
