Berthoud Police Department under investigation

The police department in the Larimer County town of Berthoud has been taken over by the county sheriff’s department while unspecified allegations are investigated.

The Coloradoan reports that a Larimer County Sheriff’s Office sergeant has assumed the duties of Berthoud Police Chief Glenn Johnson. An unspecified number of the town’s seven police officers is on administrative leave.

Berthoud Town Administrator Mike Hart would not elaborate on the alleged wrongdoing. He said the sheriff’s investigation hasn’t yet begun.

The town board is scheduled for a special meeting Tuesday evening consisting of an executive session.

Berthoud is a town of roughly 5,300 people It straddles boundaries of southern Larimer County and Weld County.
