Fewer services, fewer people at Social Security offices

As the government shutdown continues, so do limited services at the Social Security Administration field offices.

The limited services are reducing the traffic at the Colorado Springs office. On Tuesday afternoon, there was no line and there were few people walking in.

“It looked blank,” Benjamin Eagleson said. “I go in, and no one’s in there.”

A sign on the door lists the services employees can’t provide at the regional office. They include issuing a new or replacement Social Security card, replacing a Medicare card and issuing a proof of income letter.

To see a full list of the services you can still get in person, those you can get online, and those who will have to wait until after the shutdown, visit the Social Security Administration website.
