New trial set for accused gun buyer Stevie Vigil

A new trial date has been set for the woman accused of buying the gun used to kill the Colorado corrections chief but there’s a possibility she could plead guilty before then.

There have been some negotiations between the lawyer for Stevie Marie Vigil and federal prosecutors. Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard Hosley told the judge in the case Monday that there could be a resolution in the case before the new Dec. 16 trial date. He also said a hearing allowing Vigil to change her plea may be needed.

Hosley wouldn’t elaborate. Vigil’s lawyer said negotiations have been off-and-on but wouldn’t comment on how the case could be resolved.

Vigil is accused of giving a handgun to former inmate Evan Ebel, the only suspect named in the slaying of Tom Clements.
