Mayor’s group evaluating flood-damaged trails

Flooding not only damaged homes and businesses in Colorado Springs but also trails. On Saturday, hiking and biking took a back seat to identifying problems at Garden of the Gods Park.

Mayor Steve Bach and his wife joined hikers, horseback riders and other volunteers in surveying trail damage.

The outing was part of the mayor’s Spirit of the Springs initiative. The goal was to improve designated trails and find a way to control erosion.

“We ride on these trails, we hike on these trails and we’re here to maintain these trails,” said Ruth Caldwell with Friends of Equestrian Skills Park.

The group would also like to rid city trails of non-native plants that could harm the park’s natural plants and ecosystem.
