School bus driver jailed on DUI charges

A school bus driver accused of sideswiping a vehicle while transporting a freshman football team from a game is being held on $4,000 bond after being charged with DUI.

The Adams County district attorney said Monday 57-year-old Burton Carpenter also faces charges of careless driving, reckless endangerment and child abuse.

Authorities say Carpenter was taking members of the Mountain Range High School team from a game at Prairie View High School when the bus hit a vehicle Saturday.

Authorities say 37 students and four adults were aboard the bus when Carpenter hit the vehicle in a parking lot, causing minor damage. No injuries were reported.
