Police: man confessed to more than 100 burglaries

The Colorado Springs Police Department says detectives from the Metal Theft Unit have stopped a pair of serial burglars from committing anymore crimes.

The two suspects have been identified as Richard Cantu and Robert Swiatek.

Police think Cantu and Swiatek are responsible for a series of burglaries during which appliances were stolen from vacant properties in Colorado Springs and across El Paso County.

Police say Cantu was arrested on September 11 after burglarizing a house in the 4500 block of Wordsworth Circle N. They say Cantu confessed to committing over 100 residential burglaries over the last year, and implicated Swiatek as being involved in the crime spree.

Police say that over 15-thousand-dollars worth of stolen property was found at Cantu’s home.

Robert Swiatek has not been arrested, but will be according to police.
