Police: customers saved clerk from attacker

Two Colorado Springs men are being credited for stopping an attack at a southeast side convenience store.

It happened at 10:36 p.m. on Monday, September 16, 2013.

Police say Guillermo Lopez-Sanchez walked into the 7-Eleven at 2508 E. Fountain Boulevard, jumped over the counter and attacked the clerk.

Two men who were shopping in the store at the time pulled Lopez-Sanchez off of the clerk and held him down until officers arrived according to investigators.

The Colorado Springs Police Department says one of its officers was kicked in the head by Lopez-Sanchez while police were trying to arrest him.

Lopez-Sanchez is facing charges of 2nd degree assault on a police officer and 3rd degree assault.
