Federal team probes synthetic marijuana in Colo.

A five-member team from the Centers for Disease Control has arrived in Colorado to probe reports that synthetic marijuana is to blame for scores of recent illnesses and possibly three fatalities in Denver and Colorado Springs.

State health department spokesman Mark Salley says the federal team arrived Monday. Federal, state and county investigators are probing whether all of the estimated 75 people apparently sickened by the drug got it from the same source. He says the effort may take weeks.

The investigation follows a similar outbreak in which nine people became ill from synthetic marijuana last year in Wyoming.

Two women were sentenced to federal prison in Wyoming this summer on convictions of distributing the drug causing serious injury.
