Syria vigil held at Acacia Park

As opposition to the idea of US bombing Syria grows across the county, so are Americans standing up for what they believe is right.

A new poll shows a majority of Americans oppose a strike against Syria, fearing a long-term commitment if we do.

One way they’re letting their Senators and Representatives know how they feel is through public vigils.

Monday night, more than a dozen people showed up at Acacia Park in downtown Colorado Springs to urge Congress to vote against bombing Syria.

It’s all part of the National Day of Action. Colorado Media Justice Foundation (CMJF) hosted the event alongside national advocacy organizations MoveOn, Credo Action, Progressive Change, and Win Without War.

The idea is to urge U.S. Senators Michael Bennet and Mark Udall, and U.S. Rep. Doug Lamborn, to vote against the Authorization for Use of Military Force resolution, which will be debated in Congress as soon this week.

It’s also a day ahead of President Obama’s speech on Tuesday night, in which he will address the nation and make his case about action in Syria.

Similar vigils were planned for Monday night in over 225 cities across the country.
