Suspicious package deemed safe

A suspicious package found in a park on the northeast side of Colorado Springs was deemed safe Tuesday night.

The package was found on a picnic table at Eugene McLeary Park near Powers and Woodmen.

Colorado Springs police, firefighters and hazmat team responded.

It was determined that a child left a box of dolls. The all-clear was given about two hours later.

“Every neighbor that could be in contact, that was home, PD did talk to them to say, ‘Just stay here. You will absolutely be informed if there’s any reason to be evacuated.’ And we had the school security with us just in case we had to get in and there was no reason to,” said Lt. Stacey Billapando.
