After flood, still a lot of work left in Green Mountain Falls

Nearly two weeks after a flood rushed through Green Mountain Falls, the town still has a lot of work to do. The damage put a damper on the Labor Day holiday.

On Monday, Gazebo Lake Park wasn’t looking its best. The water in the lake was muddy and the playground was blocked off. There were fewer people than usual too.

“There doesn’t seem to be as many people for a Labor Day weekend,” park goer Stanley Gurule said.

The damage also affected nearby business The Pantry. Its owner had to close the back patio two weeks early, costing him about $35,000 in lost revenue. Now, he’s cleaning up so he can reopen it next year. He has a lot of work ahead of him, but his customers are standing by him.

“They do bring their appetites and that’s perfect,” owner Ben Stephens said.

Stephens plans to open The Pantry for dinner indoors starting in November to help make up for his loss.
