Denver man shot after firing at propane tank

A man suspected of killing a woman and wounding another is in critical condition after he fired a gunshot at a propane tank he was carrying and was shot by Denver police.

The man was seen walking with a gun and propane tanks in a residential neighborhood Friday, prompting police to warn residents to remain indoors.

Within about a half hour, officers responded and shot him. Police Chief Robert White said officers fired after the man shot his gun at the tank to cause an explosion.

Police say the propane tanks had gunpowder on top of them. The bomb squad was called in to handle the tanks.

A woman was found dead in one home and another woman was found wounded in another. Their identities haven’t been released.
