Wildfire near Glenwood Springs burns on 390 acres

Fire officials say a wildfire southeast of Glenwood Springs that prompted evacuations is 27 percent contained.

With better mapping, fire officials have determined the Red Canyon Fire was burning on about 390 acres Wednesday. That is up slightly from earlier estimates.

The Carbondale and Rural Fire Protection District has said about 20 structures are threatened.

Officials believe the fire was sparked Monday by lightning, though they’re still investigating.

Investigators still haven’t pinpointed the cause of the Black Forest Fire, which broke out in June, killing two people, destroying 488 homes and charring 22 square miles.

El Paso County sheriff’s Lt. Jeff Kramer said it appears the fire was human-caused. He said investigators are still awaiting reports on some laboratory tests.
