A look at how Manitou has changed
Along with the ash, mud and rocks, the flash floods in Manitou Springs have also swept in change. The town will never be the same.
“I remember back in the day before the burn scar you didn’t have this water damage, the creek never rose this high,” said Manitou resident Jeff Contat.
Water roaring out of Williams Canyon has all but destroyed part of a neighborhood off Canyon Avenue. Looking back at Google Streetview images, you can barely recognize the area.
Manicured lawns and fences are gone; in their place are mud and debris.
Residents are still struggling to return things back to normal.
“We’ll get it back, we’ll get it back,” Contat said.
