Ridgeway jury will hear evidence of sex assault

The judge in the case of a teenager charged with killing a 10-year-old girl ruled Wednesday that doctors will be allowed to testify the girl was sexually assaulted.

The Denver Post reports that attorneys for Austin Sigg objected to the doctors’ designations as experts. Sigg is accused of kidnapping and killing 10-year-old Jessica Ridgeway last year.

Jefferson County District Court Chief Judge Stephen Munsinger ruled the doctors are sufficiently experienced to be considered expert witnesses at trial. Both examined Jessica’s remains after they were found last October.

More motions in the case were expected to be heard Wednesday afternoon, including debate over whether to delay slightly the start of the trial – currently scheduled to begin Sept. 20.
