Big cleanup task ahead of residents of flooded homes

Residents whose homes flooded Saturday night had a big cleanup task ahead of them Sunday.

A combination of floods and flash floods left a mess behind on the southeast of Colorado Springs.

“It was like four inches of water just rushing around the building,” John Zalesiak said.

At El Vecino Apartments, on Monterey Road, residents used shop-vacs to suck up the water. Some even had fans on to help the carpet dry more quickly. By sunday afternoon, most of the excess water was gone, but the carpet in the hallway and inside people’s home was still wet.

“All the carpet’s ruined,” one resident said. “The hallway’s ruined. It stinks. It’s nasty. It’s gross.”
