Springs child porn suspect arrested in Florida
The Colorado Springs Police Department says a man accused of making child pornography at his home on Airport Road has been arrested in Florida.
On July 11, police executed a search warrant at Nick Chandler’s home at a mobile home park near Airport Road and Powers Boulevard. Several computers and other digital media were confiscated for further investigation.
Police say they found almost 100 sexually explicit images of a 5-year-old girl on electronics that were recovered from Chandler’s home. Investigators say the images were likely created and placed on the computer in June of 2012.
Police were able to recognize several identifiable items in the background of the images that led them to believe they were taken at Chandler’s home.
On July 30, police obtained a second search warrant for the home. They were able to confirm that it was the location where the images were created, and that Chandler was the suspect. The child was identified, and an arrest warrant for Sexual Exploitation of Children was issued for Chandler.
Police say that by this time, Chandler was nowhere to be found. Investigators learned he may have moved to Florida.
Colorado Springs Police worked with Florida Internet Crimes Against Children and Homeland security to track down Chandler.
Chandler was arrested Tuesday night in Pinellas County, Florida, near Tampa.
