Penrose sex assault suspect arrested
The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office says it has arrested a man accused of sexually assaulting a woman in Penrose.
The alleged assault happened Wednesday afternoon at a home in the 700 block of K Street.
Deputies say they received a call about a man who was suicidal and possibly armed with a gun. The man was identified as Casey Michael Myers.
While deputies were responding to that call, a second call came in from a woman who said Myers had sexually assaulted her.
When deputies arrived, they found Myers armed with a .45 caliber handgun. Myers refused to give himself up, reportedly threatened the alleged victim with the handgun and fired one shot into a garage wall.
Myers surrendered peacefully after an hour long standoff with deputies.
The victim was not related to Myers, but is an acquaintance of the family.
The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office says that Myers called the woman and asked her to stop by his house before the assault.
Myers is being held on $100,000 bond. He’s facing charges of first degree kidnapping, sexual assault, and menacing.
